Thief caught sleeping after cookie snack

MALAYSIAN police have arrested a thief who fell asleep after snacking on cookies in the home of his victim and was discovered curled up in bed clutching a stolen purse, a newspaper has reported.

V. Sathya, an insurance manager in the northern Malaysian state of Terengganu, said his nine-year old son was startled to find the intruder sleeping in his bed, with a blanket pulled over his head, after the family returned from a shopping trip.

“He shouted and ran out of his room,” Sathya told the Star newspaper.

“Even then the burglar did not wake up and carried on sleeping while holding on to one of my wife’s purses.”

The thief also ate up the cookies the family had prepared for Chinese New Year celebrations next weekend.

“My wife had prepared various delicacies over the past few days but the rogue ate everything,” said Sathya, who is married to an ethnic Chinese.

Good Samaritan faces lawsuit

A court in the United States has ruled that a would-be Good Samaritan accused of rendering her friend paraplegic by pulling her from a wrecked car can be sued.

The Supreme Court of California has declared that the state’s Good Samaritan law only protects people from liability if they are administering emergency medical care.

Justice Carlos Moreno ruled that a person is not obligated to come to someone’s aid. “If, however, a person elects to come to someone’s aid, he or she has a duty to exercise due care,” he wrote.

According to the lawsuit, on 1 November 2004 Alexandra Van Horn was in the front passenger seat of a car that crashed into a lamp post at 45 mph. Lisa Torti was a passenger in a car that was following Van Horn and stopped after the crash.

According to Torti she feared the wreckage was going to explode and she therefore pulled her friend out. Van Horn has testified that Torti pulled her out of the wreckage ‘like a rag doll’ and blamed her for her paralysis.

Torti argues that she should be protected from a lawsuit because she was giving ‘medical care’ when she pulled Van Horn from the car.

Train in India loses way

KANPUR: Passengers of a Bihar-bound train had a shock when their train lost its way and rather proceeding to Lucknow headed towards Allahabad, so
urces said.

The train — Pooja special 4006 — had to leave for Lucknow from Kanpur Central station at 8 am on Sunday, but by mistake the driver headed towards Allahabad.

When the passengers realised that the train was moving on a wrong route, they made a hue and cry about it. The driver then stopped the train at Sarsaul, 15 km from here, the sources added.

The driver was asked to bring the train back to Kanpur. The train, which got delayed by three hours due to the gaffe, left for Darbhanga via Lucknow after it reached the station here.

Senior officers have reached the spot and the matter is being investigated, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager, Kanpur Central Station, Manoj Kumar said.

Drink driver jailed for turning up to probation meeting with a pint

A serial drink driver has been jailed after turning up for a probation appointment with a pint of lager in his hand.

The
case of Amir Saeed, 30, sparked outrage in February after magistrates
decided not to give him a prison sentence for his tenth drink drive
conviction in less than a decade. But now he is in jail after Blackburn
magistrates were told he had totally failed’ to co-operate with the
suspended prison sentence.

Nothing To Do With Arbroath: Drink driver caught 15 minutes after ban ends

A drink driver banned from the road for three years was caught drunk
behind the wheel again – just 15 minutes after his 1,095 day ban ended.

Peter Savage was caught by traffic officers as he drove back home after a night out celebrating the end of his ban with friends, during which he had drunk four pints of lager.

The
court heard that after being pulled to the side of the road the
28-year-old scrapyard worker gave a false name and address as he tried
to escape out of another ban.

Camera on stolen laptop helps owner catch thieves

A tech-savvy White Plains woman whose apartment was robbed solved the crime herself after she was able to log on to her stolen laptop, photograph one of the suspects with it and get photos of another, police said.

At that point, police said, the victim signed onto another computer and used the “Back to My Mac” program to determine that her stolen MacIntosh laptop indeed was signed onto the Web and that someone was using it to shop online. She then activated the stolen computer’s camera, allowing her to “see” what was in front of the laptop.

Naked stranger on toilet asks to ‘finish business’ before arrest

Lisa Bess could not figure out why the front door to her home on West Silver Springs Boulevard was locked and the key was missing on Tuesday afternoon. She couldn’t figure out why her bathroom door was locked and water was running. She called the police.

When Ocala police officers kicked open the door to her bathroom at about 5 p.m., she had her answer: A man had found the extra key outside, let himself in, picked out a new outfit of her clothes to wear and took a long hot shower. They found him sitting naked on the bathroom toilet.

“There was still a stench of my body lotion; actually, water was still draining from the bathtub,” Bess said. “And he was refusing to get off the toilet until he finished doing his business.”

Residents lived with 90-year-old’s corpse on toilet for months

A man, woman and two teenage children apparently shared a house in Necedah Township, Wisconsin with a corpse for two months before authorities found the body. At least one of the adults in the house insisted the dead woman inside wasn’t “fully dead,” and that they could pray her back to life.

The home is reportedly in decent condition, although Lewis and the children apparently used a pail for a bathroom because Middleworth’s body was draped over the only toilet in the house. Both Bushey and Lewis are facing charges of causing mental harm to a child, and obstructing justice.

At least one cop has been disciplined for ordering the NYPD‘s highest-ranking uniformed black officer out of his auto while the three-star chief was off-duty and parked in Queens, the Daily News has learned.

“How you can not know or recognize a chief in a department SUV with ID around his neck, I don’t know,” a police source said.

Police in Florida investigating a report of a suspicious person at North Prong Cemetery Church found a woman inside and a man hiding under the church. They told investigators they broke in so they could have sex on the altar.

Pearce told deputies that he had Rowland were drinking when she told him she wanted a “spiritual and sexual experience.” Deputies said Rowland broke into the little-used church located next to the North Prong Cemetery near Sanderson.
