Thief caught sleeping after cookie snack

MALAYSIAN police have arrested a thief who fell asleep after snacking on cookies in the home of his victim and was discovered curled up in bed clutching a stolen purse, a newspaper has reported.

V. Sathya, an insurance manager in the northern Malaysian state of Terengganu, said his nine-year old son was startled to find the intruder sleeping in his bed, with a blanket pulled over his head, after the family returned from a shopping trip.

“He shouted and ran out of his room,” Sathya told the Star newspaper.

“Even then the burglar did not wake up and carried on sleeping while holding on to one of my wife’s purses.”

The thief also ate up the cookies the family had prepared for Chinese New Year celebrations next weekend.

“My wife had prepared various delicacies over the past few days but the rogue ate everything,” said Sathya, who is married to an ethnic Chinese.

Good Samaritan faces lawsuit

A court in the United States has ruled that a would-be Good Samaritan accused of rendering her friend paraplegic by pulling her from a wrecked car can be sued.

The Supreme Court of California has declared that the state’s Good Samaritan law only protects people from liability if they are administering emergency medical care.

Justice Carlos Moreno ruled that a person is not obligated to come to someone’s aid. “If, however, a person elects to come to someone’s aid, he or she has a duty to exercise due care,” he wrote.

According to the lawsuit, on 1 November 2004 Alexandra Van Horn was in the front passenger seat of a car that crashed into a lamp post at 45 mph. Lisa Torti was a passenger in a car that was following Van Horn and stopped after the crash.

According to Torti she feared the wreckage was going to explode and she therefore pulled her friend out. Van Horn has testified that Torti pulled her out of the wreckage ‘like a rag doll’ and blamed her for her paralysis.

Torti argues that she should be protected from a lawsuit because she was giving ‘medical care’ when she pulled Van Horn from the car.

Train in India loses way

KANPUR: Passengers of a Bihar-bound train had a shock when their train lost its way and rather proceeding to Lucknow headed towards Allahabad, so
urces said.

The train — Pooja special 4006 — had to leave for Lucknow from Kanpur Central station at 8 am on Sunday, but by mistake the driver headed towards Allahabad.

When the passengers realised that the train was moving on a wrong route, they made a hue and cry about it. The driver then stopped the train at Sarsaul, 15 km from here, the sources added.

The driver was asked to bring the train back to Kanpur. The train, which got delayed by three hours due to the gaffe, left for Darbhanga via Lucknow after it reached the station here.

Senior officers have reached the spot and the matter is being investigated, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager, Kanpur Central Station, Manoj Kumar said.

Bob Marley interview bid embarrasses BBC

BBC Three, one of the public broadcaster’s digital TV channels, sent an email to the Bob Marley Foundation saying it wanted to do a documentary about his hit song No Woman No Cry.

It said the project would involve Marley – who died of cancer in May 1981 at the age of 36 – “spending one or two days with us”, and that “it would only work with some participation from Bob Marley himself”.

In a statement, the BBC said: “We are obviously very embarrassed that we didn’t realise that the letter to the Marley Foundation did not acknowledge that Mr Marley is no longer with us.”

Marley would have been 60 last February 6, a date that was celebrated with great fanfare by his legion of fans worldwide.

A BBC press officer, contacted by AFP in London on Friday, confirmed that the gaffe was not an April Fool’s joke.

Bank manager gives woman loans for sex

                          

A German bank manager gave loans to a woman for sex and then embezzled thousands of euros to buy the silence of her relatives, authorities said on Thursday.  When the man realized he could not offer the jobless woman a loan because of her poor credit history, he offered to lend her the money personally in return for sexual favors, said a spokesman for a court in the southern town of Tuebingen.  The 31-year-old then stole the money from the bank. The pair continued their arrangement for the next three years.

In total, the man diverted some 520,000 euros ($760,000) from clients’ accounts, of which he gave about 70,000 euros to the woman, and kept 40,000 euros for himself.  The biggest chunk of the cash went to her relatives who were blackmailing the bank manager, a married man with children. The manager had himself told her cousin about the sex deal.  “As incredible as it sounds, that’s what he told us,” the Tuebingen court spokesman said. “The cousin was suspicious and she called him to ask how the woman had got a loan.”

The court said bank officials uncovered the ruse after probing irregularities linked to the man’s handling of other loans. The court gave the man, who confessed, a jail sentence of three years and nine months.

                                                 ACWORTH, Ga.—Two females who police said might be as young as 16 were clad in sunglasses as they handed a bank teller a note demanding cash, smiled as they waited and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money Tuesday, police said.
“This is something totally new to us,” Cobb County police spokesman officer Wayne Delk said of the robbery at a Bank of America branch inside a grocery store.

The girls approached the teller inside the Kroger store shortly after noon, and witnesses were unable to tell investigators whether they left in a car.

Their only disguise was the sunglasses, and they were clearly pictured in surveillance camera shots.

“The pictures are too good. Someone’s got to know them,” Delk said.

Not sure as to who the idiot would be. The teller who gave away the money by just seeing ” note demanding cash ” or the girls who had just the sunglasses for disguise.

Now if you happen to see them, you know what to do.

Man Hides Dildos in Sausage – Plans on Smuggling them into Dubai

Appearantly long hard thick sausage are legal in Dubai, but sex toys aren’t. A Dubai man dropped some sausages off at a butcher ship in Berlin, Germany and asked them to wrap them, cool them and hold onto them as he was planning on flying to Dubai the following day. But a watchful employee noticed that the sausages seemed a little too heavy. The butcher shop promptly contacted the police for fear there might be something hidden inside the enourmous weiners. How right they were.It’s really quite funny, I guess sex toys are illegal in Dubai so people have to smuggle them in. I wonder what the punishment there is for unlawful possesion of a dildo! Talk about repression!!!!!

Aussie barmaid fined for crushing cans with bare breasts

PERTH, Australia (AFP) – An Australian barmaid who entertained patrons by crushing beer cans between her bare breasts and hanging spoons off her nipples has been fined, police said Wednesday.

Luana De Faveri, 31, was fined 1,000 dollars (900 US dollars) in the Mandurah Magistrates Court in Western Australia after pleading guilty to two breaches of the Liquor Control Act.

Another barmaid who helped hang spoons on De Faveri’s nipples, Tracey Leslie, 43, was fined 500 dollars while the bar manager was fined 1,000 dollars for failing to stop the pair, police said in a statement.

“She was alleged to have also crushed beer cans between her breasts during one of the offences” at the Premier Hotel in Pinjarra, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Perth in June, police said.

The fines “send a clear message to all licensees in Peel that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour in our licensed premises,” said Superintendent David Parkinson of the Peel Police District.

Mugabe launches Robert Mugabe intelligence academy

HARARE (Reuters) – Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has launched an intelligence academy named after him, saying it would produce officers able to counter growing threats from Western powers, state media reported on Friday.

Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since independence from Britain in 1980, is fighting isolation from the West, which accuses him of human rights abuses and rigging elections and economic mismanagement.

The combative 83-year-old veteran leader says he is being punished for seizing white-owned farms for landless blacks to redress colonial imbalances, a programme critics say has plunged the economy into crisis.

“With the current unjustified demonisation of Zimbabwe by Western powers, the role of intelligence in shaping foreign, security and economic policies become even more critical,” the Herald newspaper quoted the president as saying at the launch of the Robert Mugabe National School of Intelligence near Harare.

Critics say Mugabe has increasingly relied on security forces to keep opponents in check in the face of growing anger over the unravelling economy, but he denies the charge.

The intelligence academy is also expected to train members of the army, police and operatives from other southern African countries.

Mugabe said Britain and the United States continued to try to destabilise Zimbabwe by working with “non-state actors” aimed at unseating his government.

“The important role of defending our country cannot be left to mediocre officers incapable of comprehending and analytically evaluating the operational environment to ensure that the sovereignty of our state is not only preserved, but enhanced,” Mugabe said.

I am sure he started this academy in good faith, he just wants part with some of his intelligence.

Actual Letter From Pennsylvania Dept of Environmental Quality and the Dam Beavers

This is an actual letter sent to a man named Ryan DeVries regarding a pond on his property. It was sent by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Quality, State of Pennsylvania . This guy’s response is hilarious, but read the State’s letter before you get to the response letter.

SUBJECT: DEQ File No.97-59-0023; T11N; R10W, Sec. 20; Lycoming County

Dear Mr. DeVries:

It has come to the attention of the Department of Environmental Quality that there has been recent unauthorized activity on the above referenced parcel of property. You have been certified as the legal landowner and/or contractor who did the following unauthorized activity:

Construction and maintenance of two wood debris dams across the outlet stream of Spring Pond.

A permit must be issued prior to the start of this type of activity. A review of the Department’s files shows that no permits have been issued. Therefore, the Department has determined that this activity is in violation of Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams, of the Natural Resource and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of the Public Acts of 1994, being sections 324.30101 to 324.30113 of the Pennsylvania Compiled Laws, annotated.

The Department has been informed that one or both of the dams partially failed during a recent rain event, causing debris and flooding at downstream locations. We find that dams of this nature are inherently hazardous and cannot be permitted. The Department therefore orders you to cease and desist all activities at this location, and to restore the stream to a free-flow condition by removing all wood and brush forming the dams from the stream channel. All restoration work shall be completed no later than January 31, 2006< /st1:date>. !

Please notify this office when the restoration has been completed so that a follow-up site inspection may be scheduled by our staff. Failure to comply with this request or any further unauthorized activity on the site may result in this case being referred for elevated enforcement action..

Dear Mr. Price,

Your certified letter dated 12/17/02 has been handed to me to respond to. I am the legal landowner but not the Contractor at 2088 Dagget Lane , Trout Run, Pennsylvania .

A couple of beavers are in the (State unauthorized) process of constructing and maintaining two wood ‘debris’ dams across the outlet stream of my Spring Pond. While I did not pay for, authorize, nor supervise their dam project, I think they would be highly offended that you call their skillful use of natures building materials ‘debris.’

I would like to challenge your department to attempt to emulate their dam project any time and/or any place you choose. I believe I can safely state there is no way you could ever match their dam skills, their dam resourcefulness, their dam ingenuity, their dam persistence, their dam determination and/or their dam work ethic.

These are the beavers/contractors you are seeking. As to your request, I do not think the beavers are aware that they must first fill out a dam permit prior to the start of this type of dam activity.

My first dam question to you is:

(1) Are you trying to discriminate against my Spring Pond Beavers, or

(2) do you require all beavers throughout this State to conform to said dam request?

If you are not discriminating against these particular beavers, through the Freedom of Information Act, I request completed copies of all those other applicable beaver dam permits that have been issued.

(Perhaps we will see if there really is a dam violation of Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams, of the Natural Resource and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of the Public Acts of 1994, being sections 324.30101 to 324.30113 of the Pennsylvania Compiled Laws, annotated.)

I have several concerns. My first concern is, aren’t the beavers entitled to legal representation? The Spring Pond Beavers are financially destitute and are unable to pay for said representation — so the State will have to provide them with a dam lawyer. The Department’s dam concern that either one or both of the dams failed during a recent rain event, causing flooding, is proof that this is a natural occurrence, which the Department is required to protect. In other words, we should leave the Spring Pond Beavers alone rather than harassing them and calling them dam names.

If you want the stream ‘restored’ to a dam free-flow condition please contact the beavers — but if you are going to arrest them, they obviously did not pay any attention to your dam letter, they being unable to read English.

In my humble opinion, the Spring Pond Beavers have a right to build their unauthorized dams as long as the sky is blue, the grass is green and water flows downstream. They have more dam rights than I do to live and enjoy Spring Pond. If the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection lives up to its name, it should protect the natural resources (Beavers) and the environment (Beavers’ Dams).

So, as far as the beavers and I are concerned, this dam case can be referred for more elevated enforcement action right now. Why wait until 1/31/2006? The Spring Pond Beavers may be under the dam ice then and there will be no way for you or your dam staff to contact/harass them.

In conclusion, I would like to bring to your attention to a real environmental quality, health, problem in the area. It is the bears! Bears are actually defecating in our woods. I definitely believe you should be persecuting the defecating bears and leave the beavers alone. If you are going to investigate the beaver dam, watch your step! The bears are not careful where they dump!

Being unable to comply with your dam request, and being unable to contact you on your dam answering machine, I am sending this response to your dam office.
